Spam Emails Promise Nude Celebs

A wide-ranging wave of spam that promises to show its recipients photos of nude celebrities has hit the web, the software security company Sophos has warned.

The company has urged those who receive these emails not to access them as they contain malware that could harm PCs.

All the emails have an attachment titled shocking.zip or amazing.zip. They also most often come with the message: "Good morning, old chap! Shocking video of nude Angelina Jolie. See it in your attachment. Best Regards." Using the lure of indecent pictures of celebrity figures is not a new tactic for cyber criminals, yet it continues to be an effective one, Sophos warned. Senior technology consultant for Sophos, Graham Cluley, said: "These emails are masquerading as pornographic content, tempting the unwary into opening a file on their Windows computer which will install a rootkit and download further malicious code from the internet."

The best way to combat becoming a victim of this spam is by using caution when opening one's email inbox, added Mr Cluley. Recently, McAfee devised a quiz, made up of ten questions, to test users on how knowledgeable they are about phishing.
